Frederick Maine was recorded in the 1880 Sands and McDougall’s Melbourne and Suburban Directory as being a homœopathic chemist at 24 Errol Street, Hotham (now called North Melbourne), on the corner of Raglan Street between Victoria Street and Raglan Street. By 1884 the business was listed as a “homoeopathic agency”, still at 24 Errol Street. In 1892 Mr Maine’s business was at 293 Victoria Street, West Melbourne. In 1904 the agency was run by Mrs Jane Maine at 156 Victoria Street, North Melbourne.
