[1849 - 1935]

Thomas Slade Loney was born at Wellington, Somerset, England, on 2 June 1849, the son of Henry Makepeace Loney and Mary Slade.

According to England's census for 1871, Thomas was a chemist's assistant, one of 10 chemists or chemist's assistants boarding at 2 Plough Court, Queenhithe. By 1881 he was a pharmaceutical chemist living with his brother at High Street, Eltham, London.

On 4 November 1882 he married Kate Crooms at the Church of St Dunstan and All Saints, in the Parish of Stepney. He and Kate then boarded the ship 'Thomas Stephens', arriving in Sydney on 22 January, 1883.

By May 1889 he had established his pharmacy, under the name 'Thomas S. Loney' at 208 William Street, Woolloomooloo. According to the post office directory for that year, he advertised as a chemist and dentist, while in later years he was listed solely as a chemist. He was listed as a Member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

In 1896 Thomas divorced Kate on the grounds of adultery by his wife with two assistants in his chemist business.

In 1915 Thomas was elected as a member of the Pharmacy Board of New South Wales.

Thomas died on 21 September, 1935 at 40 Boronia Avenue, Cheltenham, New South Wales.
