[1849 - 1925]
Henry Glover was born in 1849 in Richmond, Victoria.
According to his obituary, he served his apprenticeship as a chemist at St Kilda Junction, under the guidance of a Mr William Johnson, father of Dr John Johnson of Mount Gambier.
By 1871 Henry had moved to Mt Gambier, South Australia, where he married Annie Sophia Allison, daughter of William Ruler Allison, architect. They had two daughters and a son. Their home was in Ferrers Street, Mount Gambier.
Henry was a friend of George Alfred Pritchard, who also married a daughter of William Allison, so that he and his friend became brothers-in-law. For a period Henry managed Pritchard's pharmacy, commencing July 1873. Pritchard's advertisement at that time stated that the business was to be managed by H. Glover, legally qualified Pharmaceutical Chemist and late 8 and a half years in the employment of Wm Johnson Esq, Government Analyst of Victoria.
An advertisement of January 1874 stated that Mr Pritchard had resigned as dispenser of the Mount Gambier Hospital and that Mr Glover was to succeed him as dispenser.
After leaving the dispensary in 1878, Mr Glover purchased the pharmacy previously owned by Mr Robert Jackson in Commercial Street, Mount Gambier. (For more information see the entry for H. Glover in the Chemist section of this website.)
Mr Glover took a keen interest in sporting activities, particularly cricket. For many years he was a member of the committee of the Mount Gambier Racing Club, eventually being made a life member in appreciation of his services.
Annie Sophia died 6th October 1919. Henry Glover died in November 1925.
