By the 1920s the Nicholas Golden Cross Laboratory produced 22 lines of homœopathic remedies.
Building of the factory commenced in December 1896 and the business would have opened some time during in 1897.

After the death of Mr Nicholas in 1921, his wife Sarah tried to continue operations by selling shares in the business. However, by 1931 the business was closed and it was re-created as a guest house. The building is now called 'The Pill Factory' in memory of its earlier use, and provides accommodation and dining facilities.
