  • Full Name:
    Dr James Ray
  • Role:
    Registered practitioner
  • Occupation/s:
    Physician and surgeon, homœopath
  • State:
    Victoria
  • Date first identified using homoeopathy in Australia:
    1850s
(Material researched & presented by Barbara Armstrong)

Dr Ray obtained his qualifications (MRCS) in 1831. He had arrived in Australia by 1853 (first registered on 6 August 1863), and practised in the Bendigo goldfields. In 1863 he was practising at Grant, in Victoria.

According to Templeton's book about the history of the Melbourne Homœopathic Hospital, she believed that Dr James Ray was the brother of Dr Robert Ray, and that he was the one who encouraged Robert to train as a doctor.  However, to-date I have found no documented evidence to conclusively prove that the two were brothers.
