Dr Ross’ qualifications were MB, ChB and BAO, Dublin 1889. In the 1892 edition of the Australasian Medical Directory, Dr Ross was recorded as being Resident Medical Officer at the Melbourne Homœopathic Hospital. In the 1896 edition of the Directory he was recorded as having moved to practise at Nukualofa, Tonga.
