Edward George Owen was born to John Owen, homœopathic chemist, and Louisa Royal in 1855 at Collingwood. In 1886 he married Annie Bishop Jones who also been born in Collingwood, in 1860.

 

They had four children - one daughter and three sons. The three sons died before their mother. 

 

Edward eventually took over the business originally established by Benjamin Poulton in Collins Street, Melbourne.

 

In 1877 Edward was Treasurer of the Victorian Chemists' Assistants' Association.  Later he held the position of Treasurer of the Pharmaceutical Society of Victoria for 30 years, from 1898 to 1928.
