In 1882 George Slater was recorded in the post office directory as being a Bookseller and Stationer, running the New Church Book Depot (implying that he was a member of the Swedenborgian Church – a group favourably inclined to homœopathy). In the same year, Henry Leake sold his share of his homœopathic pharmacy to Mr George Slater.
